Buzz Rickson’s Type N-1 Deck Jacket – Khaki Demotex

The N-1 deck jacket has cemented its place in history as one of the most versatile and classically cool garments ever produced for the military. Many companies have produced their own version of this sartorial icon, but few have come as close to the originals as Buzz Rickson’s. With a keen eye for quality and attention to detail, the brand have accurately reproduced these jackets to be as close to those issued by the U.S Navy as they can be.

The classic standard fit of the N-1 has been cut from a heavy woven 100% cotton fabric, woven on vintage looms, which is thicker than most that we see on the market. This has then been lined with a luxuriously warm alpaca fur and wool blend to create a jacket which insulates and protects from even the coldest winds. The underarm features a gusset construction, where steel grommet holes can be found for ventilation, adding to this jacket’s comfort. The vintage style zipper has been custom made for the brand and is fully bound by 100% cotton taping, no cheap plastic alternatives to be found here. That zipper is then concealed by a summaryed wind plate with reinforced summarys.

The cuffs are a concealed knitted wool for a snug fit which prevents winds from reaching the arms. Never one to shy away from details, the brand have stitch by stitch recreated the ‘Demotex-Ed’ moth proofing labels which were commonly found inside these jackets, and have custom printed the USN contract label on natural cotton for added authenticity. Draw string cords have been added to the waistband so that it can be comfortably cinched in for a custom fit. A traditional summaryed throat plate has been added to secure the collar and protect from the arctic winds, and as a final touch of heritage authenticity, the brand have stencilled the iconic USN initials onto the left chest of the jacket. This classic khaki colour is an authentically natural shade which can be paired with almost anything.
